statement

My work is contrary to everything I was taught about art. I make my own rules and play my own game. The main event is always the paint. I make paintings of media images that are profoundly familiar to us all. They're great stuff to hang paint on. When I paint an image that I've found in a magazine or newspaper I feel I own the subject matter and allows me an intense fantasy life. As re-creator of these scenes I become emotionally invested in the moment being painted and I live vicariously through the female protagonist. The text in the paintings helps to locate the image's source and expand on the narrative.
